Major Festivals of Arunachal Pradesh
Nyokum Yullo
Nyokum Yullo is the most popular festival of Arunachal Pradesh. As the largest and most prominent event in the state, this age-old festival, entrenched in the traditions of the Nyishi community. It stands out not only for venerating offerings to the gods but also for its purpose of seeking blessings for a prosperous cultivation season.
Celebrated in February 26th, the festival not only symbolizes a connection to ancient customs but also serves as a vibrant testament to the rich cultural of the region.
Dree
Dree Festival is celebrated by Apatani tribe. With immense cultural and religious significance for the Apatani Tribe, the Dree Festival serves as a vital ceremony. Its primary purpose is to appease the god for a bountiful harvest and to invoke blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the community.
Celebrated in 5th July is the time when the Apatani people community come together to express gratitude to the gods and goddesses for providing them successful agricultural season.
Solung
The Adi tribe celebrates the Solung Festival on 1st September, which symbolizes the culmination of the sowing season and the commencement of the harvest season.
Dedicated to Doying Bote, the god of crops, this festival not only underscores the Adi community’s but also serves as a vibrant expression of their reverence for nature.
Si Donyi
Si-Donyi is a major festival celebrated among Tagin tribe from 4 to 6th Jan. It honors the Si (earth) and Donyi (sun).
During the festival, people venerate the god Si (Atu Si – male spiritual form of earth) and goddess Donyi (Ayu Donyi – female spiritual form of Sun) in their spiritual forms through rituals and prayers.
Mopin
Mopin Festival is an important cultural festival of Galo tribe. On April 5th, the community celebrates the festival, marking the onset of the agricultural season. This event is dedicated to the goddess Mopin, believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.
Longte
Longte festival is celebrated by Nyish tribe. It has a unique feature: Longte lacks both ritual sacrificing and ritual chanting. This distinction make it stand out as a different and interesting festival among the other harvest festivals of Arunachal Pradesh.
