Evolution of Students Union Organizations in Arunachal Pradesh

Dive into the history of Arunachal Pradesh’s students union growth, specifically the evolution of AAPSU student unions that have played a pivotal role in shaping the socio-political landscape of politics of Arunachal Pradesh.

  1. Early Years: Abor-Miri Students Union (1947 Onwards)

In the initial phase, starting from 1947 in the North East Frontier Tracts (present-day Arunachal Pradesh), a group of enlightened Adi and Mishing students formed the Abor-Miri Students Union.

Initially centered in Pasighat, with its roots in the students of Sadiya Govt. High English School, it later evolved into the Adi Mishing Students Union of North East Frontier Tract in 1947. Notable leaders in this phase included Late. Daying Ering, the founder president.

  1. Formation of All NEFA Students Union (1959)

In the second phase, in 1959, the North East Frontier Tract was renamed North East Frontier Agency (NEFA). The students from the Adi Mishing Students Union united to establish the All NEFA Students Union (ANSU) with its headquarters in Pasighat. Talum Rukbo served as the founder president (1966-68), and Bakin Partin as the first general secretary (1966-68).
